Did you catch "MSG, NY Extra" this week? If not, you missed Alex Iglesias and Scott Lasky running down some hot tickets and a "zoo-rific" holiday time (hey, I didn't say it.) Watch the segment right here:
And if you like the sound of the Bronx Zoo's holiday lights, get more information on that event and many other festive outings on this must-do holiday list and Plan Your Day:
See The Rockefeller Center Holiday Tree
It's a tradition for a reason. Admire the 84-foot tall Norway spruce while it's all lit up. It's really pretty amazing.
Skate on The Pond at Bryant Park
Don't miss the other winter wonderland right in Midtown. It's free and fun and a good way to work off all those Hanukkah latkes and Christmas cookies.
Have A Talk With Santa Claus
Whether you see him at Macy's, South Street Seaport orBloomingdale's, you'll make time for a little face-to-face with the big guy before the 25th if you know what's good for you.
Check Out The Bronx Zoo's Holiday Lights
Half a million lights illuminate the zoo at night, where families can enjoy storytelling sessions, ice carving demonstrations and see the reindeer, Siberian tigers and monkeys that stay up late.
Take A Christmas-Lights Tour Want the real homegrown NYC Christmas experience? You have to go to Brooklyn. If you don't know your way around the neighborhoods with the most extravagantly decorated homes, A Slice of Brooklyn's Christmas Lights Tour will hook you up.
Did you miss this week's "MSG, NY Extra"? Alex Iglesias returned for a brand-new Extra Bytes segment, including news on the biggest upcoming events and a peek at our ongoing quest to present The 31 Lists of December.
Alex Iglesias and Scott Lasky sat down to talk big tickets and holiday celebrations on Sunday's "MSG, NY Extra." Did you miss it? Here's what went down:
And sure, the Plan Your Day interactive tool that Alex described on the show may have been designed to help you plot all the fun things you can do before and after you hit the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, but it has a lot of other applications. On a day like today, for example — when you're probably hiding out inside from the weather or at work counting down the hours until Thanksgiving — it's a fun way to plan all the things you'd rather be doing. Here's one magic Monday:
I'd start out my outing with a spin around the Bryant Park Ice Rink, refuel with lunch and cocktails at 21 (We'll start out with a round of Bee's Knees, thanks!), pop next door to the Paley Center for Media to spend some quality TV time with the 1979 John Denver and the Muppets Christmas special, take my warmed holiday heart over to Fifth Avenue to get an in-person look at the Tiffany snowflake pendant I've been admiring online, do a whole lot of browsing at Saks, head west to take a gander at the Rockefeller Center tree before it's all lit up, and end the day in Times Square, where I can ooh and ahh at all the cute things at Sanrio, check out the spectacle at Toys R Us and pretend the winter is over while sipping a mojito at Havana Central.
Check out the latest "MSG, NY Extra Bytes" on Sunday, when Alex Iglesias and Scott Lasky will give you the scoop on hot tickets to some recently announced upcoming shows.
Also on the show, Alex will be test driving a tool designed to help you plot the perfect New York City holiday outings.
Ok, as promised and 2 days late (sorry, busy week) here is what happened on this week's MSG, NY Extra Bytes segment after The Great Comedy Debate. Plus, a little look into what's coming up this week now that Christmas is early ;)
We'd like to thank Ronnie from Queens and Gregg from West Orange, NJ for their mixed bag of best arguments submitted by the public. Overall, I still think Ronnie had the better argument, but Gregg's ramblings sold me on a couple ... sort of.
Don't miss this week's show at 6PM and 10PM on MSG. If you have any questions, comments, jokes or bad behavior you want me to blabber about just email me at msgnyextra@thegarden.com (no porn please, my inbox is full).
The 2007 New York Comedy Festival begins Tuesday and runs through Sunday, and according to the event website, you can expect "big, brash, ballsy, controversial, dynamic, diverse, unapologetic and unforgettable" acts. How unforgettable? Well, here's a look at what memorable things some of the fest's biggest comedians were up to a while back.
Before the talk show and the other talk show and the movie career and the gig as a VH1 VJ (remember?), Rosie O'Donnell was just another Long Island stand-up looking for a big break. And then this happened.
Sarah Silverman's first big break was "Saturday Night Live," but you've seen her on that, right? Here's a skit from HBO's long-gone comedy series "Mr. Show," co-starring a whole lot of people who would later end up on "The Sarah Silverman Show."
Once upon a time, stand-up comedy was all over TV — cable shows, syndicated series, even Comedy Central. Back then, Denis Leary wasn't an actor playing a totally messed-up fireman, he was a chain-smoking, screaming comedian.
Hey, remember when Damon Wayans and Jim Carrey worked together on "In Living Color"? Yeah, that wasn't their first collaboration.
There were plenty of biting political jokes to make back in the 1980s, but Bill Maher wasn't cracking them. He was way too busy guesting on "Murder, She Wrote," co-starring on a sitcom with Geena Davis and fighting off the advances of Shannon Tweed.
Want to know where the big laughs will be? Check in with "MSG, NY Extra" Sunday at 10PM on MSG and get the lowdown on the fest from Scott Lasky and Alex Iglesias with "MSG, NY Extra" Bytes.
The band's frontman, Sting, has a home in New York and is apparently a big fan of Central Park West — according to Curbed.com, he put one CPW apartment up for sale only to move into another place right down the street. ...
But before that parade marches down Broadway, we're in for what is perhaps the city's second most famous — and far more wild — parade: the Village Halloween Parade. ...
And if you're going to the Halloween parade, you'd better be in costume. Blogger Fab Sugar has picked Carrie Bradshaw, the "Sex and the City" character portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker as a top celebrity costume. ...
SJP's husband, Matthew Broderick, returns to the big screen in "Bee Movie," which opens Friday ... the very same day that the Police close out their two-night MSG run.
